On a recent field trip the Room 4 kids got to enjoy "Kidquake" at the San Francisco Library. They first assembled in Koret Auditorium to hear four Bay Area children's authors and illustrators read from their published books and
talk about how they became authors and illustrators. Then the Room 4
children were selected to attend a special workshop with Dashka Slater,
author of "Firefighters at Night".
 On stage with Elissa Haden Guest, the author of the "Iris and Walter" early reader series, as she explains to the children in the audience the process of getting a book published.
 During their workshop with Dashka Slater, the children participate in a brainstorming session about "sounds they hear at night" and what they imagine those sounds could be.
 The children write and illustrate their own books about "Sounds in the Night" after the brainstorming session.
