14 April 2007

The PTA-sponsored Skate Day started out with some early-morning rain, which may have scared away a few people. By 1:30 pm the yard was dry, the sky was sunny, and we were ready to skate! There were many first-timers out there; they picked skating up quickly.

We had a surprise visitor arrive. Do you recognize him?

George Peabody Elementary Skate Day: San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom

Yep, it's San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, seen here with Principal Willem Vroegh.

Students and parest were able to take lots of pictures with the mayor and share their concerns about our fair city.

Thanks to the Freeman family for starting Skate Day; it's become a great (and healthy) tradition.

Our next Skate Day will be in the autumn. Remember, eastern Golden Gate Park is a wonderful car-free place to practice on Sundays.
