2007.10.20 Peabody Beautification Day - part II
Our autumn Beautification Day happened on Saturday 20 October 2007. A good number of parents turned out to paint the bungalow and railings and another group refreshed and renewed the plantings surrounding our fair campus. Photos to follow. A hearty thanks to all!
2007.02.24 Peabody Beautification Day
Our Community Meeting and Beautification Day (中文) happened on 24 February 2007. 'twas a day of conversation, companionship, necessary maintainance, and chow. Here's what happened to our play structure:

2006.12.06 The California Palace of the Legion of Honor
Miss Savelis' 1st grade class made a trip to the California Palace of the Legion of Honor art museum.
After-School Program Expanding
We recently received an ExCel grant to expand the size of our after-school program that is run by the Richmond District Neighborhood Center. We will now be able to serve 80 students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade. For the 2007/2008 school year all students will be able to attend the program for free! Spots in the program are reserved for students in all grade levels. Entering kindergarten families will be able to apply to the program over the summer and participate in the program on the first day of school.
Junior League Supports George Peabody
The The Junior League awarded the George Peabody PTA a $5,000 grant to provide scholarship funding for our after school enrichment classes and to purchase two outdoor bulletin boards. The outdoor bulletin boards will be filled with news items from our PTA and parent education information gathered by our school counselor.
Second Annual Inner Richmond Spelling Bee
George Peabody has retained its crown as spelling bee champion of the Inner Richmond public schools! For the second year in a row George Peabody students placed first and second. It was a highly competitive bee this year. Seven students from George Peabody, Frank McCoppin and Sutro Elementary were still standing at the end of the first day. These students were provided with a new list of words to study. When the bee reconvened a week later Sarah Skootsky outlasted the remaining students. We wish her good luck in the Bay Area Bee that takes place in Berkeley later in February.
2006.12.06 Fire Drill
This was the scene outside our school this afternoon, as the San Francisco Fire Department sent a truck and engine in response to the fire drill.
2006.11.21 Disaster Preparation Day
Your kids are at school and an earthquake (or other disaster) strikes! What happens next? Well, at George Peabody Elementary we're preparing for the day the earth moves by running drills with the teachers, staff, parents, and students.
2006.10.31 Halloween
Halloween was a special day here at George Peabody. Students got to vote for their favorite carved pumpkin, guess the weight of the school pumpkin, and parade around the school grounds and neighborhood with their classes.
2006.10.28 Skate Day
The Freeman family presented the first of two Skate Days at George Peabody. Many students tried skating for the first time; many old-timers returned to the asphalt. The community-building event included Mrs. Freeman's BBQ, a favorite of the hard-working attendees.
2006.10.20 Fitness Day
Once again the entire school descended en masse upon a near-by park for a day of fitness, exercise games, and nutritional instruction. Studentsin groups with peers in all gradesplayed, laughed, and ate.
2006.10.11 Kidsquake at the San Francisco Public Library
On a recent field trip the Room 4 kids got to enjoy "Kidquake" at the San Francisco Library. They first assembled in Koret Auditorium to hear four Bay Area children's authors and illustrators read from their published books and
talk about how they became authors and illustrators. Then the Room 4
children were selected to attend a special workshop with Dashka Slater,
author of "Firefighters at Night".
2006.09.30 Beautification Day
About 40 parents, family members, staff, friends, and students spent the day making our school even more beautiful. The gardens got a good weeding and reorganization, the classrooms a good cleaning, the yard some beautiful new sea creatures, and many of the railings got repainted.

2006.05.20 Spring Carnival
There will be games and activities for children of all ages, food, music, a bounce house and plenty of fun! Peabody t-shirts and sweat shirts will available.
2006.04.29 Skate Day
Today the George Peabody Parent Faculty Organization sponsored
our first-ever Skate Day. Over 30 students, parents, and faculty
members came out for a great afternoon of skating. David Milesa
leader of the Healthy Saturdays initiativegave lessons, led line
dancing, and made sure there was enough equipment for everyone.
2006.03.02 Literacy Fundraiser
The goal of the program is for the participants to read, or be read to, 300 minutes or more over the two-week period...
2006.02.04 Beautification Day
| Over 40 parents and students came early on a Saturday morning for a fun day of beautifying our school.
The major projects completed included landscaping the school grounds and giving a deep cleaning to many of the classrooms.

2005.11.01 Fitness Day: Donut-Eating Contest
| Fitness Day is a day of fun and exercise for the kids (and adults). The students get a break from their regular curriculum to learn about staying fit and having fun in the process. (Besides the donut-eating, there's also an egg relay and hula hoops.)
