Why join the Parent Teacher Association?

Many studies have shown that one of the biggest indicators for the educational success level of a child is parental involvement. And what better way to get involved with your child's education than through the PTA?

The George Peabody PTA invites you to GET INVOLVED!

We invite all families to join the George Peabody Parent Teacher Association (GP PTA). At Peabody we believe the studies which confirm parent involvement positively impacts children's well-being and their academic achievement regardless of their family income and background. Children have better attitudes about school and fewer behavioral problems when parents (or grandparents) are actively involved and committed. This family involvement and commitment also benefit our teachers/staff and our neighborhood community. Our goal is to have every member of our school community participate in the PTA. We hope every family will volunteer at least 3 hours per child to help us achieve our volunteer goal this year.

The number-one reason to join the GP PTA is to benefit your child. In doing so, you also help your school. But there are many more advantages. Here are just a few:

  • Get Connected. It's a great way to know what's happening in your school.

  • Discover Great Resources. The PTA offers a variety of workshops designed to help parents help their children.

  • Tap into a Network. Parenting is not easy; it helps to share ideas, concerns and experiences with other parents and educators in the community. PTA functions are opportunities to meet other parents and teachers, to build rapport, and to discuss issues that are on your mind.

  • Watch Yourself Grow. By volunteering with your PTA, you gain valuable experiences. You can develop your leadership abilities and learn new skills, such as conflict resolution and goal setting.

  • Speak Up. Because the PTA is a forum for exchanging ideas, we encourage new ideas and suggestions. The PTA can be a way for you to more effectively suggest change at your child's school. We like to see passionate ideas become realities!

  • Witness Improvement. By getting involved at your child's school, you'll be part of the solution helping to make positive improvements. Local PTAs, like Peabody's, play an important role in fundraising to provide building improvements, curriculum-based programs, and social events--all vital to a school's success.

  • Be a Good Role Model. By becoming a PTA member, you join a group that demonstrates to your child the importance you place on education. It's also an opportunity to show your child how your skills and hobbies can benefit the community.

Joining the PTA

Membership in the GP PTA is $15, however, we will gladly accept contributions in excess of the membership fee, and encourage you to contribute more if you can. PTA dues and contributions are tax-deductible.

PTA Activities
The PTA has created and supports many programs that we take for granted at George Peabody, including classroom supplies and materials, field trips, scholarships for after-school programs, parent education, and the many fun-filled activities. The school website is created and maintained by PTA volunteers. The PTA also serves as an important mechanism to relay the concerns of parents to the Principal and school district officials.

PTA Events
The PTA sponsors many popular community events throughout the year including Skate Day, Fitness Day, Beautification Day, Halloween Parade, Emergency Preparedness Day, Holiday Songfest, Art Showcase, and capped off by our popular Spring Carnival!

See the Calendars & Newsletters page for information about upcoming events, listed in the current PTA Calendar of Events.
