My name is Ms. Chan.  I have been teaching 1st grade in SFUSD for over five years. In addition to being a classroom teacher, I have also been a SFUSD Health Advocate for four years. As the school Health Advocate, I help organize health related school-wide activities and assemblies.  I believe that it is important for children to be physically and mentally healthy, so that learning can be maximized without distractions. To encourage healthy eating habits, I have taught students to cook some yummy and healthy foods such as vegetable soup, cranberry corn muffins and fruit parfaits. My passion for wanting to teach, especially in the primary grades, is because I believe young children are very impressionable. By teaching in the primary grades, I have the ability to guide them early on to have good academic and social habits that they will carry with them.
